Advent Reflection #10
Jesus said, “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
This is the one for who the world waited those many years. This is the one that we follow. This is the one for whose return we wait.
“Lord we are weary.” – “Come to me,” he says.
“Lord our burdens are too heavy.” – “Come to me,” he says.
“Lord we are tired.” – “Come to me,” he says.
The God who created all things, the God of power and holiness unimaginable, was born weak, and frail, as as helpless babe. He great up and lived like each and every one of us. He knows our plight. He knows exhaustion, stress, and the crushing weight of life’s burdens. This is the God who beckons us to come to him and receive rest.
We come to you, Lord Jesus. Will you return to us, Lord Jesus? It is for you that we wait.
